Studies Underway

To date, we know of four research projects being conducted in relationship to implementation of the Middle and High School Supplemental Counseling Program. One project is being conducted in Poway Unified School District in partnership with the Center for Student Support Systems. A related project is underway in Northern California, under the supervision of Suzy Thomas, Assistant Professor of Counseling at Saint Mary's College of California. A third project involves a survey of counselors around the state and focuses on the first year of implementation of the Middle and High School Supplementary School Counseling Program portion of AB 1802. The fourth project is a survey of school counselors in Orange County being conducted by John Brady of Chapman University. Results of these research projects will be disseminated through the Clearinghouse as they become available. (See studies completed for a report of the first year of the Poway Project.)

If you know of other research underway, please let us know. It is crucial that research be conducted on the implementation of the new funding for California school counseling. If you are a researcher, we urge you to consider becoming a part of the AB 1802 research network that the Clearinghouse Project supports. Just send us an email and indicate your interest in participating in research on the Middle and High School Supplemental School Counseling Program.
