Notice of the first apportionment for the Middle and High School Supplemental School Counseling Program for fiscal year 2006-07 was mailed by the CDE. The apportionment represents 75 percent of the total estimated entitlement and notification should have been received by each school district and direct-funded charter school that submitted to the CDE by December 8, 2006, written assurances that it would meet the statutory requirements for the Middle and High School Supplemental School Counseling program.
The estimated entitlement for each school district and direct-funded charter school is equal to its California Basic Educational Data System enrollment for grades seven through twelve times a rate of $65.70.

The Middle and High School Supplemental School Counseling Program apportionment is still in the process of being certified by the CDE. Certification is expected by the end of January or the beginning of February. Once certified, the apportionment letters will be mailed and posted through the fiscal link at the following web site:

More School Counselors on Way
State gives $200 million for the hiring of 3,000
Public middle and high schools throughout California are getting $200 million this year from the state to hire an additional 3,000 counselors - boosting by more than 40 percent the number of guidance professionals tending to students' social, emotional and academic needs. The new hires have been coming on board in recent months.
